Kawasaki Z1000 MKII
Bevelhead. • 1 yr. ago. A change of plan meant I could finally start to assemble my 1979 Z1000 MK2 Restomod. An afternoons work on the drive, had it back on its wheels for the first time. The wheels are from a late model Yamaha R6, forks and swing arm from a ZRX1200, while the rear caliper is from a BMW 1250GS. Not an easy conversion.

Very pleased with the quality, and of course its carbon fibre. Weighed the 1170 at last, with no petrol, but all other fluids, its 211kgs / 466lbs . That's 34kgs or 75lbs lighter than the dry weight of a Z1000. Happy with that, and I reckon the MK2 will be even lighter.

By 1979 the one-time 903 Kawasaki was into its second year of Z1000 life, at 1,015cc, and displayed more than a few changes sufficient, anyway, to justify Kawasaki calling it MKII. In the engine the alterations were designed to boost power by 10bhp, to a peak of 93bhp at 8,000 rpm.
